Guest: Zazu Myers (Production Designer – Eternity, My Old Ass, Fingernails, Night Raiders, The Grizzlies, Mouthpiece, M/M)

From Mouthpiece to Eternity: Designing for Indie Film charts Production Designer Zazu Myers’ journey through the world of independent cinema — from shoestring beginnings to larger-scale projects that retain the spirit of creative freedom.

Myers has designed across every level of production, from M/M, made in Berlin with an all-volunteer crew, and The Grizzlies, built with a makeshift art department in Iqaluit, to Fingernails (Apple) and Eternity (A24). Each project required invention and collaboration — transforming limited resources into immersive worlds that serve character and story.

In this in-depth conversation, Myers reflects on how independent filmmaking sharpens visual problem-solving, how design language evolves as budgets grow, and how to stay adaptable without losing artistic integrity. With credits including American Woman, Broken Hearts Gallery, Night Raiders, My Old Ass, and more, she offers a comprehensive look at the creative realities of designing for independent film.
