Inside Production Design

October 21
18:30 - 20:00 BST
Everyman Kings Cross / 14-18 Handyside Street Kings Cross
London, United Kingdom

From gritty urban dramas to glossy period pieces, from sci-fi worlds to Saturday night entertainment shows, the work of the production designer sets the tone, mood and authenticity of a story before a single line is spoken.

In this special event, leading production designers responsible for shows like Gentleman Jack, Trigger Point, Little Birds, Vanity Fair, Broadchurch, Killing Eve, Taboo, Fleabag and The Night Manager, take us behind the screen. They will reveal how they transform scripts into living, breathing environments and will share the process of research and world-building, from mood boards, sketches and digital pre-visualisations through to studio builds and on-location set dressing.

Expect insights into the close collaboration between designers, directors, cinematographers and costume teams — and hear how creative problem-solving, tight budgets and fast turnarounds push the craft to new levels of ingenuity.

Whether you’re fascinated by the meticulous detail of period reconstruction, the challenge of futuristic design, or the logistical puzzle of multi-camera studio shows, this is a unique chance to see how the look and feel of television is made.

Panellists:
Jonathan Paul Green, Production Designer & Chair of the BFDG
Anna Pritchard, Production Designer
Lucienne Suren, Production Designer, Art Director
Tom Overton, Founder of Totom Construction

This event is produced in collaboration with the BFDG (British Film Designers Guild)
