Highlight reel of recent visit from Australian Production Designer Leslie Binns OAM who shared a selection of his work and industry experience with Film, Television and Animation students at Deakin University, Melbourne Australia.
Leslie Binns earned his OAM Award as a production designer in the film, television and theatrical environment. As a young designer he started work in Sydney on the series Riptide (1969- 1970) and the beloved Skippy (1968-1970). He then moved to Crawford Productions, Melbourne to work on many television series, and then freelanced.
He realised that his abilities to budget and work efficiently were essential for a production designer. His Illustration, conceptual and story boarding contributed to his career.
He has designed more than 30 feature films and many television series internationally and in Australia. Some of his work includes: Anzacs (1985), Hercules (2005), Noah’s Ark (1999), Robinson Crusoe (1997), Home Alone 4 (2002), Crocodile Dundee in LA (2001) and the iconic and at the time provocative Stork (1971) and Alvin Purple (1973) movies.
A career highlight is the Emmy Award nomination for the U.S production of Moby Dick (1998) and the international success for both The Man from Snowy River feature films (1982, 1988).
