Virtual Production in Practice – LED Volume in Action
An event by the Austrian Filmdesigners Association at HQ7 Studios presented by LEDcave

Since October 2024, the HQ7 Studios have offered state-of-the-art facilities for film production. Recently, one of the two sound stages was upgraded with a cutting-edge LED volume – a key technology in the field of virtual production. With this event, we aim to showcase the diverse possibilities of this innovative technology through real-world applications and expert insights.

Part 1: Introduction & Live Demonstration by LED Cave
In the first part of the event, LED Cave, the operator of the volume, will demonstrate the creative potential LED volumes offer for film productions.

Using a specially designed set, participants will experience live how tracked camera movements interact with dynamically rendered digital backgrounds. This presentation will provide both a technical overview and creative use cases from everyday production workflows.

Part 2: Behind the Scenes with Production Designer Johannes Mücke
In the second part, renowned production designer Johannes Mücke will share his experiences working on the international series “Those About to Die.”

This high-end, $150 million production, set in ancient Rome, was filmed in 2023 under the direction of Roland Emmerich at the legendary Cinecittà Studios in Italy – with extensive use of virtual production inside LED volumes.

Johannes Mücke will offer exclusive insights into the creative and technical challenges involved in designing virtual sets on a large scale.
