Have you ever wondered how the worlds you see on screen come to life? Explore the art of production design, a vital yet often overlooked discipline that shapes the visual worlds of film and television.
This exhibition offers a glimpse into the craft that transforms scripts into tangible environments, supporting storytelling and bringing characters’ surroundings to life.
We’re proud to present the work of the first ten graduating cohorts from VCA’s Production Design program, alongside projects from our current students. This showcase not only reflects on a decade of creative achievement but also looks forward to the future of the field. From detailed set designs to digital innovations, the exhibition demonstrates the range of skills required in modern production design. Visitors will gain insight into the process of world-building and the collaborative nature of this essential craft.
We invite you to discover the creativity and technical skill involved in this important aspect of visual storytelling. Come and see how VCA’s production designers, past and present, help create the worlds that captivate audiences.

About the Organizer:
At the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) we help students realise their potential, find their voice and contribute meaningfully to a global community of creative practice.
The VCA is known internationally as a leading tertiary institution for artistic invention. It has a proven track record of developing the change-makers of the future as evidenced by the achievements of its alumni. The VCA today offers a unique range of programs across the visual arts, performing arts and media, taught by staff who are experts in their fields.
The VCA is co-located with the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music on the University of Melbourne’s Southbank campus in the heart of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct. We respectfully acknowledge the people of the Boonwurrung and the Woi Wurrung, who have danced their dances, sung their songs and lived their culture on this land for tens of thousands of years.
